I had an open myomectomy for 30+ fibroids in 2021 and laparoscopic surgery for DIE (deeply infiltrated endometriosis) in 2022.
Looking back, I’ve always had very heavy (changing a super tampon AND an overnight pad every hour) and painful (6 ibuprofens a day, and I'd still be incapacitated lying on the floor) periods, but my doctors only tried prescribing birth control. I hadn’t actively taken my health into my own hands and looked into finding the right doctors and getting surgery until I was 35 when my pain became an everyday occurrence and more severe. Initially, I thought I was stupid, but as I talked to more and more women, it seems it’s the norm that we don’t get help early enough.
We, unfortunately, aren’t taught what a normal period is, and our doctors unfortunately might not be aware of the severity of our symptoms, are not educated in conditions like endometriosis, or just plainly dismiss what we feel.
So, I’m building Neuemoon to help young girls and women like us hopefully. This is a long journey, and my hope is that you’ll join me to help build Neuemoon together.
With love,
Michelle
